Back Pain & Ankylosing Spondylitis

Do you suffer from a persistent back pain, especially lower back pain right above your crack?  Are you stiff when you awaken in the mornings with relief coming a few hours after being awake?  Do your joints "stove up" when you sit idle for a long time, say watching a movie?  While there could be numerous explanations for your particular issue, one possible issue that doesn't get much attention by the medical industry is Ankylosing Spondylitis.  Ankylosing Spondylitis (a.k.a. AS) is an inflammation causing long term disease that usually affects the spine and hip joints, but can also affect peripheral joints.

While the cause of A.S. is unknown, genetic history plays a significant role.  AS use to be considered a "male" disease, but more and more females are getting the diagnosis nowadays; although, there are still 3 males for every female diagnosis.

The founder of Pragmatic Products suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis and it is one of the reasons why "Bucket Ape" came into existence.  Due to the symptoms of AS affecting him, he was unable to haul buckets of water or get up and down off the floor repetitively.

His story starts back in 1996 when he started having severe back and hip pain.  The doctors couldn't find a reason for the pain and several offered speculative "cures."  After 10 years with progressively worse symptoms he enlisted the help of a "back specialist" that was renowned for his surgical skills.  However, even this "specialist" missed the diagnosis and instead prescribed him 1 month of physical therapy!  Finally a diabetic doctor noticed that our founder was consistently complaining about the same symptoms, (severe fatigue, weight loss, not being able to avoid a nap around lunch time, chronic pain) for several visits.  As luck would have it, he had a dentist friend that had also been complaining of the exact same symptoms and the dentist was recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis.  So there he was 12 years after the first complaint about pain, and the verdict was in!  (well it was in after a HLAB-27 Positive result)  By this point, our founder was so riddled with inflammation that he was unable to get down on the floor or get up off the floor without it taking about 5 minutes of excruciating pain.

Our founder is now on drug therapy and feeling CONSIDERABLY better!  Even though he still suffers from pain, the intensity is vastly reduced and flexibility has returned.  Because of the amount of time that he suffered due to the ignorance of this particular disease in the medical industry, our founder created an awareness campaign.  Given that AS has such of a high ratio of male victims he developed the below bumper sticker to increase awareness.  He figured if there is a male in the car behind him, that person will not only wonder what Ankylosing Spondylitis is, but where can he get one!

If you or someone you knows suffers from AS and you would like to support awareness of Ankylosing Spondylitis, simply send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope to Bucket Ape AS, 3116 Laurie Av, Panama City FL 32408 and we will send you the below  bumper sticker free of charge!  Help stamp out ignorance of this debilitating disease.

If you think you or someone you know suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis, Visit BackPainTest.org to take a test that can help you decide.

<< Have you experienced back pain for more than three months that tends to ease with physical activity and exercise? If so, consider taking this short, online screening test that was developed by physicians who are experts in rheumatology. The test is designed to help identify some of the symptoms that can be associated with a disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).  >>
